Ames Environmental: Learning Center - Collect a tape sample

Using clear tape (not frosted or invisible) take 3”- 4”of tape.
Press the sticky side of the tape gently onto the mold to be sampled. Using a finger (or a Q-Tip) press gently and embed the mold sample onto the tape. If you are not certain that you have a sample then prepare two or more samples of increasing amounts of mold on each tape.
Gently peel away the tape from the moldy surface. Press the tape, sticky-moldy-side down, onto the inside of a new, unopened, clear, sealable, bag.
You now have 3”-4” of moldy tape stuck mold-side-down onto the center of the inside of a plastic bag.
Close (seal) the bag with the tape on the inside.
Wash your hands
Put the sample bag into an envelope.

Notes:

DO NOT stick the moldy (sticky) side of the tape to itself as we won't be able to get it back apart to prepare the lab slide. Just stick the TAPE sample onto the CENTER of the INSIDE OF THE BAG.
